FAQ

How much does printing cost?

All printing prices are per sheet of paper, not per side. A double-sided print job has the same cost as a single-sided print job. All labs and public printers on campus default to duplex printing (both sides).

All matriculated students receive $50 in printing per academic year as part of tuition.

STUDENT / FACULTY / STAFF RATES

Black & White    $0.05 / per sheet

Color            $0.15 / per sheet

PUBLIC / GUEST RATES

Black & White    $0.10 / per sheet

Color            $0.30 / per sheet

Prices are formulated from the cost of equipment and maintenance, paper cost and support.

Why does NVU charge for printing?

From Fall 2009 to Spring 2012, NVU researched printing trends on campus. We found that the average student prints less than 1,000 pages per academic year. We took that number along with our cost-per-sheet and determined that each matriculated student would receive $50 in printing funds per academic year as part of tuition. After that $50 has been used, students are responsible for the additional printing costs. Guests of NVU are now responsible for their own printing costs and do not receive free printing.

How do I add printing funds?

Printing funds can be added through the printing website at lyndonstate.edu/printing via a credit or debit card. Once you are logged in, click Add Printing Funds from the menu on the left. If you do not have a credit/debit card, please contact the OIT Help Desk.

How do I check my balance?

Your printing balance will appear whenever you log in to an NVU computer. You can also check your balance anywhere on campus by visiting lyndonstate.edu/printing and logging in with your username and password.

What if I make a mistake? Are refunds available?

Both major printing hubs on campus, the 24-Hour Lab (LAC 344) and the library, utilize release stations. These stations help reduce paper waste and unwanted print jobs.

If you print a document in these locations and decide you don’t want it, simply do not release the job at the station and you will not be charged. Unreleased jobs will be automatically deleted every 18 hours. Refunds are not available on print jobs that are mistakenly released from a release station.

In non-release locations, users are responsible for all print jobs that are sent to the printer.

Use Print Preview to see how the print job will look.

Refunds will be granted if there are problems with the printer and the OIT Help Desk is contacted about the printer malfunction within one hour. Problems include:

  • Smudges or unreadable print jobs
  • Printer jam resulting in wrinkled or torn print jobs
  • Print job does not come out at all
  • After contacting the OIT Help Desk about the printing issue, you can request a refund through the printing website. See How do I request a refund for a print job?

Can I print from my personal computer or tablet?

OIT offers the WebPrint service which allows you to print basic documents from your personal computer or tablet. Anyone with a NVU username or guest printing account can utilize the WebPrint service.

This service is currently avialable from on-campus only.

How To Release a Print Job on Campus?

There is one print release station the NVU-Lyndon campus, located in the library.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, you must release the print job using the PaperCut application on the computer you’re working at. Please ask at the Infodesk if you have any trouble. Your print job is then sent to the printer behind the Infodesk. Please ask Infodesk staff to hand you your print job.

Printing to personal printers

Printing to a personal printer from your own computer requires a USB cable. Wireless printing is not supported on our network.
